Donna Mitchell
Artist Statement
The process of making to me is very instinctive. It comes with the need to make a loose idea physical with constant revaluation.
My working method is experimental and explorative, often leading to the work being discarded and dismantled after exhibiting. I work freely in the depth of process and experimentation, with materials which give a swift response reflecting the development of my thought process. Recent projects include an artist residency at Higher Trevaster Farm, Porth Key. This work presents an exploration of an ancient farm's natural surroundings and considers the relationships between river and farm, birds and regrowth, habitat and landscape. Textures and patterns provided inspiration for mark making and the formation of tactile sculptures. The sculptures have an unearthly resonance. Colour is intentionally synthetic adding a staged aesthetic to the work therefore removing it from the realms of the natural. The mark making reminiscent of acid burns, scalded skin and flesh stripped bones. |
About CMR
__CMR is an artist-led
initiative designed to create a community of artists who will exhibit
and flourish within this three storey building. It is a voluntary-run organisation and project. We aim to be all
inclusive; we aim to encourage adventurous work that will respond and
challenge not only to CMR’s various spaces but also the broader
Contemporary Art landscape of Cornwall.
